13 Best Mortgage Brokers in Australia (2026)

By Luciano ViteraleUpdated: 27 May 2026

Buying property is tough enough in Australia.

But finding a good mortgage broker can be just as hard.

The good news is I’m going to give you a list of the best mortgage brokers I’ve personally come across. They include brokers I’ve worked with, those who have won industry awards, and others who consistently submit strong, well-structured deals.

I’m also going to break down why using a broker matters and what to look out for when deciding.

Let’s get into it!

So what makes a great Mortgage Broker?

As you might already know, there are thousands of mortgage brokers out there.

And your friends, family, and colleagues will all "have a guy" they think is amazing.

Some are worth their weight in gold.

But others will waste your time, hit your credit file, and send you down the wrong path.

So it’s important to take a step back and make sure you know what makes a good mortgage broker before you get too involved. Here’s what I typically consider.

Accreditation (non-negotiable): Every broker should be accredited with the MFAA or FBAA. They also need to hold their own Australian Credit Licence or operate under an aggregator that does (e.g., Stacked Finance operates under Viking Asset Aggregation). If they can’t tick that box, don’t even entertain it.

Look for genuine experience: This doesn’t just mean years in the game. It also means deals that match your needs. Whether you’re a first home buyer, investor, or someone looking to refinance, your broker should know everything related to your scenario. Every lender has quirks, structures that will work, and traps to avoid. You want an A player who knows these things.

They should have options: A solid broker has access to a wide lender panel, including all the major banks, second tiers, and the non-bank lenders. If they’re only offering you one or two options, chances are you’re not getting the best deal. So keep looking.

They must be transparent: A good broker will explain how they get paid, what you’re signing, and what the real cost looks like over time. Even though it’s a legal requirement for them to do so, some will rush through this. If they gloss over the fees or dodge straight answers, walk away.

Check their track record: Look at their reviews, ask for testimonials, or check how many deals they actually settle. Anyone can promise you a sharp rate. What matters is who can get it approved and make it stick.

The Top Mortgage Brokers in Australia (updated for 2026)

1. AFMS Group

AFMS Group, also known as Australian Financial & Mortgage Solutions, is my mortgage broker. I’ve worked with Andrew and his team directly and can say with confidence they’re one of the best in the business (and I’ve had my fair share of brokers). It’s also pretty uncommon for a boutique mortgage broker to have over 370 5-star Google reviews. They’ve clearly built a reputation for going above and beyond for their clients.

They mostly specialise in residential home loans, complex loan structuring, and refinancing.

Whether you’re buying your first home, building a portfolio, or you need help navigating a tricky scenario, Andrew and his team know how to get it done properly.

What I like most is their 1-1 service. On many occasions, I’ve popped into their office to have a chat face-to-face and meet their team. There’s no passing you off to juniors. No disappearing once the paperwork starts.

P.S. AFMS Group offers complimentary financial health checks!

Strengths

  • Boutique team
  • fast turnaround
  • sharp deal structuring
  • and a genuine focus on getting the best outcome

Ideal for: Home buyers or residential investors who want a high-performing broker who communicates well and fights to get the deal across the line.

2. Ardent Capital Group

ardent capital

Ardent Capital Group is a Sydney-based brokerage led by Nick Chong, and they come at finance from a different angle to most brokers on this list. Nick spent years as a financial planner before moving into lending, and it shows in how the business operates. The conversation starts with your structure, your goals, where you’re heading, and not with a rate sheet. They do not provide financial advice, but are highly strategic and have deep intelligence of business structures, and lender criteria.

They specialise in commercial property finance, SMSF commercial property, commercial refinance, and home loans for business owners, dental, medical and allied health professionals. That's a deliberately narrow lane and it works in your favour. SMSF commercial deals in particular are where a lot of brokers come unstuck, because the lender panel is thin and the structuring has to be right from day one. Get it wrong and you're unwinding it later at real cost.

What I like most is the planning that happens before anything gets submitted. Nick's team maps out how the debt sits across your entities, what it does to your borrowing capacity down the track, and whether the structure still holds up when you buy the next asset. They'll work alongside your accountant rather than around them. It's genuinely long-term thinking, which is rare in an industry paid on settlement.

Clear reasoning about why a structure is being recommended, and honesty when the answer is you’re ready to proceed or to wait six months. They also assist with working capital and cash flow finance.

Strengths

  • Commercial property and SMSF expertise
  • commercial refinance
  • financial planning background
  • and a focus on client longevity rather than a single transaction

Ideal for: Business owners, medical and health professionals, and commercial property investors who want their lending structured around a long-term plan, not just approved.

3. Petra Mortgage Broking

Petra Mortgage Broking is a boutique brokerage led by Blake Malcolm. What stood out to me straight away is that the business feels genuinely personal. It doesn’t come across like a massive volume-based brokerage where you become another file in the system. My conversations with Blake confirm this.

Blake has a strong finance background and clearly knows the numbers well. The business focuses mainly on residential lending, refinances, and helping clients structure loans properly based on their long-term goals, not just whatever gets approved the fastest. You can tell from the website and reviews that education is a big part of how they operate too. They spend time helping clients actually understand what they’re doing, which is rare in this industry.

I also like that they don’t overcomplicate things. The messaging is straightforward, the process looks clean, and it feels more modern than a lot of older school brokers. It’s very much positioned around strategy, cash flow, and making smarter finance decisions. Not just chasing the cheap rate.

Strengths

  • Personal service
  • strong financial knowledge
  • strategic loan structuring
  • and a more education-first approach

Ideal for: Home buyers, refinancers, or investors who want a broker that explains things properly, thinks long term, and doesn’t treat them like a number.

4. Madd Loans

Madd Loans

Madd Loans is a Brisbane-based mortgage brokerage helping Queensland buyers secure the right home loan without the usual bank runaround. The company is led by George Samios, who takes pride in helping every customer. They’re known for being straight up, responsive, and genuinely invested in getting deals approved properly the first time.

Madd Loans focuses exclusively on residential lending. That includes first home buyers, refinances, investor loans, and more complex borrowing scenarios. They don’t dabble in asset finance or business lending. Their strength is understanding your full financial position, then structuring a loan that suits your long term plans, not just what looks easiest on paper.

Whether you’re purchasing your first property in Brisbane, upgrading to your next home, or expanding your investment portfolio, Madd Loans works directly with you from start to finish. You deal with experienced brokers who are upfront about what’s achievable, what needs work, and how to put you in the strongest position for approval. You’re not handed off to juniors halfway through the process.

Strengths

  • Honest advice
  • tailored solutions
  • strong lender knowledge
  • and quick turnarounds

Ideal for: Home buyers or investors who want a broker they can trust to fight for the right deal.

5. Property Planning Australia

Property Planning Australia has been around since 2004 and was one of the first to combine mortgage broking and buyer’s advocacy under one roof. They’re based in Melbourne but work with clients all over Australia.

What sets them apart is their focus on long-term strategy, not just the loan. They’ve built their own Property Planning Platform that helps map out your property goals, cash flow, and lending structure so you can make smarter decisions and avoid costly mistakes.

What I like most is the personal service and transparency. You deal with experienced planners and brokers who are upfront about what will work, what won’t, and the smartest way forward. Clients I’ve spoken to also mention how helpful the platform is for making complex choices simple.

Strengths

  • Strategic loan structuring
  • tailored advice
  • long-term planning
  • and ongoing support

Ideal for: Home buyers and investors who want more than just a loan, people who want a full property strategy, and a broker who’s in it for the long haul.

6. Shore Financial

Shore Financial is probably one of the most well-known brokerages in the country. The company was founded by Theo Chambers and Alex Nochar in 2013. Since then, they’ve grown into a large, tech-first team that services thousands of clients across Australia every year.

They’re especially strong in first home buyer lending, luxury homes, and expat mortgages. If you’re earning a good income or you have a complex structure, there’s a good chance they have the systems and knowledge to help you out.

However, Shore runs like a machine. So you can expect digital fact finds and optimised processes. Even though some buyers may prefer a more high-touch experience, Shore Financial has a rock-solid process. It allows them to move fast without cutting corners.

Strengths

  • Large brokerage with premium service
  • more advanced technology
  • and deep lender relationships

Ideal for: First home buyers, expats, and high-income earners looking to finance prestige property or scale up their portfolio with a strategic lending plan.

7. ARG Finance

ARG Finance is a Melbourne-based brokerage led by Rahil Shah. They’ve built a strong reputation for clear advice, fast responses, and sharp execution. They’re not one of the flashy brokerages with big ad campaigns; they’ve grown mostly by word of mouth and have almost 400 5-Star Google reviews.

Their team handles everything from residential loans to commercial lending and SMSF deals. They’re also known for helping self-employed borrowers and business owners who often fall outside the big banks’ preferred boxes. You can expect no fluff, no confusion, just simple and clean execution.

Strengths

  • Strong focus on deal structuring
  • hands-on service
  • excellent with complex income and business clients

Ideal for: Buyers or investors who want a reliable broker who understands the numbers, keeps things moving, and gets the job done properly the first time.

8. Villa Finance Group

Villa Finance Group is a proactive brokerage based in McMahons Point, Sydney. The team is led by Duncan Tonkin, who has deep experience across residential, refinancing, investment, and commercial.

They focus on making finance straightforward. Instead of burying you in jargon or sugar-coating the fine print, they lay out the options clearly. You’ll know the pros and cons, what the banks will look for, and what each deal really means for you.

With access to more than 63 lenders, they can tailor structures to fit both simple and complex scenarios. If you’re looking at property investment, they’ll even work with your accountant or financial planner to make sure the finance supports your broader strategy.

What I like most is how they follow through. You’re not left chasing updates or wondering where your application is at. They walk you through each step and actually answer the hard questions, which saves a lot of stress.

Strengths

  • Clear advice
  • wide lender panel
  • custom structuring
  • strong track record with both residential and investment finance

Ideal for: Home buyers, investors, or business owners who want more than a "cheapest rate" pitch. Perfect if you want a broker who thinks about your bigger picture, not just the loan.

9. Mortgage Choice

Mortgage Choice is one of the biggest names in the industry, with brokers operating under the same brand across the country. They’ve been around since the 90s, which means they’ve seen it all from the dot-com bubble to the 2008 financial crisis.

Because they’re part of REA Group, they have the backing and scale to support clients in almost every corner of Australia. Whether you’re after a basic home loan or a more traditional setup through a major bank, their brokers can usually make it happen.

They might not be the most aggressive when it comes to deal structuring, but if you’re after mainstream lending and a broker with a recognised brand, they’re a good choice.

Strengths

  • National reach
  • strong brand
  • wide lender panel
  • and a stable process from application to settlement

Ideal for: Home buyers who want a consistent experience, prefer going with a known brand, and don’t need complex structuring or out of the box advice.

10. Aussie Home Loans

Aussie Home Loans is a household name you’ve probably heard more times than you can remember. It’s one of the longest-running broker brands in the country. They’ve got a massive broker network and a strong presence in every state. This means it’s easy to find someone local to sit down with in person.

They’re a popular option for first home buyers, refinancers, and anyone who prefers face-to-face support. Their brokers work with a broad panel of lenders and are trained to guide clients through the basics, which makes them a good starting point if you’re new to the process.

While they’re not known for complex structuring or investment strategies, they do a solid job with standard residential lending.

Strengths

  • Big brand
  • nationwide broker coverage
  • and strong support for first-time buyers or anyone who wants in-person help

Ideal for: First home buyers, families looking to refinance, and people who want a broker they can meet with locally without overcomplicating things.

11. Lendi

Lendi is an online-first mortgage broker built for people who prefer to do things themselves. You jump on the platform, answer a few questions, and it matches you with loans that suit your situation. No need to speak to anyone unless you want to.

It’s a solid option if your scenario is simple and you want to move quickly. And if you have a thing for tech then you’ll like it even more. You can upload docs, compare rates, and track your application without back-and-forth emails or meetings with various brokers.

But if you’ve got a complex structure or need proper advice, Lendi probably isn’t the right fit. This is more about convenience than a personalised strategy.

Strengths

  • Fast setup
  • easy comparisons
  • minimal hassle

Ideal for: Buyers or refinancers who know what they want and prefer to get it done online without too much back and forth.

Hunter Galloway is a brokerage in Brisbane run by brothers Nathan and James Vecchio. They’ve built a loyal following thanks to their simple advice, solid online content, and strong execution. With over 2,000 Google reviews, you can trust the team to deliver on their word.

They’re especially popular with first home buyers and upgraders who want someone to guide them through the process step by step. Unlike Lendi, for instance, the team is responsive, organised, and good at explaining things clearly without the usual jargon. They are very hands-on.

They also put out a lot of helpful videos and guides, which means clients often come in already educated and ready to go.

Strengths

  • Strong support for first home buyers
  • great content
  • smooth process
  • and solid lender relationships

Ideal for: First-time buyers or anyone who wants a broker who will explain the process clearly, respond quickly, and handle all the behind-the-scenes work.

Final Thoughts: Choosing the Right Mortgage Broker

Finding the right mortgage broker will make a massive difference to your borrowing experience. Whether you’re buying a first home, refinancing, or looking to invest, don’t settle until you find a broker who knows what they’re doing and gives it to you straight.

I suggest you look for three things: trust, track record, and transparency. A good broker should take the time to understand your goals, structure the deal properly, and walk you through every step without the runaround.

If you’re not sure where to start, I always recommend AFMS Group. I use them personally and know firsthand how good they are. Over 370 five-star reviews speak for themselves.

Otherwise, take your pick from the list above!

All of them are strong options depending on your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do mortgage brokers charge fees?

It’s very unlikely a broker will charge you directly. Brokers are paid by the lender after your loan settles. That said, a good broker will always be upfront if there are any fees involved. If they dodge the question, find someone else. Keep in mind that if you refinance too soon, the broker will need to pay back their commissions to the lender.

How many lenders do brokers have access to?

Most brokers have access to about 40 lenders, including the major banks, second-tier lenders, and non-bank options. The good ones will know which lender suits your situation best and won’t just push whoever pays the biggest commission. It’s also likely that some brokers

Can a broker help me get a better rate than the bank?

Usually a broker can get you a better rate than approaching a bank directly. However, a broker will also get your loan approved quickly, with better terms, and guide you through the whole process. Working directly with banks has produced many horror stories, and oftentimes, any rate savings you may see are not worth the headache, stress, or possibility of a deal falling through.

What documents do I need to apply for a loan?

At a minimum, you’ll need ID, proof of income (like payslips or tax returns), a breakdown of your current debts, and some basic bank statements. If you’re self-employed, be ready to show tax returns, BAS, or business financials. Your broker will let you know what else is required.

Do I need to use a broker in my state?

No, many brokers work with clients in different states. It’s also not uncommon for brokers to help you acquire properties in different states either.
