Can you fund the truck I'm looking at?

Yes. If it is a truck and it is going to work for your business, we can usually fund it, and we can fund the ones the banks turn away.

That matters more in Brisbane than almost anywhere else in the country. Brisbane runs one of the largest truck markets in Australia, and the oldest, heaviest fleet in it. Older, heavier gear is exactly where bank age policies stop, and it is most of what this city buys. The used prime mover a bank ages out on a spreadsheet is the truck a Brisbane operator actually needs, and it is the truck we are set up to fund.

The oldest and heaviest truck market in the country

Three findings separate Brisbane from every other market we looked at, and they all point the same way.

  • It is the largest, materially bigger than Melbourne and several times Adelaide.
  • It is the most used-heavy of the three.
  • It runs around three times Melbourne's density of Kenworths: heavy American prime movers, not light metro rigids.

A market that runs old, heavy, expensive gear is the market lenders handle worst, and that shapes every part of financing it.

Used trucks mean age-limit conversations

In a used-heavy market, more deals turn on the asset age limit, more need a PPSR check, and more hit a valuation gap between what the seller wants and what a lender will carry. None of that is a reason not to buy. It is a reason to have finance sorted before you find the truck.

Heavy prime movers sit differently with lenders

A heavy American prime mover is a different loan to a light metro rigid. The dollars are bigger, the pool of buyers is smaller, and a lender comfortable with one is not automatically comfortable with the other. We work with lenders on both, but the conversation is not the same.

Older assets at real money are the combination banks handle worst

On the day we captured the market, a 2002 Iveco Eurocargo was listed at $37,500 and a 2018 Kenworth K200 at $265,000. A twenty-plus-year-old truck still carrying real money does not fit a bank form. In Brisbane it is just a truck.

We accommodate for how Brisbane operators buy

Brisbane is an easy place to need a truck and a hard place to finance one the way the banks want to.

The freight task is everywhere: the port, the Bruce Highway, the distribution centres, the civil contractors working the subdivisions and the resource corridors running north and west. All of it runs on trucks, and a lot of it runs on older, heavier trucks that have already earned their money and keep earning it.

That is where the banks drop off. They want a newer asset, three years of financials and a borrower who fits the template. A Brisbane operator with an older prime mover and a good contract is a different shape, and that is the deal we are built to place.

We get the asset verified, we know what Queensland will require before the truck can be registered here, and we structure the finance around how the gear actually gets worked. Whether you are an owner driver buying your first rigid, a civil contractor adding a tipper, or a fleet replacing a prime mover, the job is the same: make the asset safe to buy, then make the finance fit the business.

The freight task behind the market

A Brisbane operator does not buy a truck to park it. This is the freight hub for a state that moves resources, produce and containers over long distances, and the gear gets worked accordingly.

The Port of Brisbane moved 34.9 million tonnes of trade in 2024/25, and most of it leaves by road. From the Gateway Motorway the corridors fan out west on the Ipswich Motorway, south on the Logan Motorway, and north up the Bruce Highway toward the resource regions.

That is why the used market here runs deep and runs old. The finance has to match how hard the gear is worked, not how new it is.

What Queensland wants when you register a truck

A truck bought here, or brought here, has to end up registered in Queensland, and Queensland sets the terms.

The Certificate of Inspection is the heavy vehicle check

A truck with a gross vehicle mass over 4.5 tonnes is a heavy vehicle, and Queensland requires an annual Certificate of Inspection (COI) to renew its registration (TMR Queensland). The safety certificate is a different document: it applies to light vehicles only, up to 4,500 kilograms gross vehicle mass.

Bringing a truck in from interstate

If you bring a vehicle into Queensland from another state and garage it here, you have 14 days to register it (TMR Queensland). Since 1 July 2018 heavy vehicles here have been registered under the National Heavy Vehicle Registration Scheme with national plates, and registration duty may apply when you register or transfer a vehicle.

Access and permits

The Heavy Vehicle National Law, administered by the NHVR, also covers the access and permits for the roads you will run on.

None of this stops a deal. It sets the order you do things in, and getting that order right before you commit is the whole point of talking to us first.

Buying private, or buying out of state

A significant share of our deals involve an asset outside the buyer's city, and Brisbane is no exception. We handle private sellers and interstate purchases, and we can arrange a mechanic to physically inspect an asset before the buyer commits. Not a video call with the seller, not a folder of photos at a flattering angle: a qualified person standing next to the truck, putting it in writing.

Brisbane is the least private-sale market of the three we looked at on the classifieds, but that undersells it. A lot of Brisbane trucks change hands on Facebook instead, in buy-swap-sell groups running tens of thousands of members and dozens of posts a day.

A private or interstate purchase is where finance does the most work, and it is the thing we do every day.

Our guide to getting truck finance in Brisbane

From what we've seem, Brisbane operators buy the oldest and heaviest fleet in the country. This makes the finance conversation more important. Pre-approval, the asset age limit, and getting the QLD registration order right decide whether you can move on a truck when you find it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What trucks can I finance in Brisbane?

Just about anything that works for a business: prime movers, rigids, tippers, trailers, box trucks, agitators and specialist bodies. We place finance for owner drivers buying their first truck and for fleets adding or replacing gear. The make and age matter less than what the truck does for you and what it is worth, and we can usually give you a read on a specific truck in the first conversation.

Can I finance a used truck, and how old can it be?

Yes. Used trucks are most of what Brisbane buys, so they are most of what we finance. There is no hard cap at application, but the end of the loan term generally cannot exceed 25 years from the build date, and the exact limit is lender-dependent. That is why a twenty-year-old prime mover can still be financed here. Tell us the build year early and we will tell you which lenders will look at it.

Can I finance a private sale or an interstate purchase?

Yes to both. A significant share of our deals involve an asset outside the buyer's city, and private sales are routine. The work is in the verification: proof the seller owns it, a PPSR check, clear photos, and usually an inspection. We can arrange a mechanic to physically inspect an asset before the buyer commits, with a written report.

Do I need a deposit?

Not always. No deposit is available up to $150,000, subject to your profile and the asset. Above that, a deposit enters the conversation. On older or private-sale trucks a deposit can also make the deal cleaner, because it narrows the valuation gap between what the seller wants and what a lender will carry.

Do I need to own property?

No. You do not need to own property to finance a truck. Property can help on some applications, and it is often what lets a low doc deal move without a deposit, but it is not a requirement. Plenty of our clients rent or lease and still get approved, because the asset itself is the security on most truck finance.

How does Queensland registration work when I buy interstate?

A truck over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass is a heavy vehicle, and Queensland requires an annual Certificate of Inspection (COI) to renew its registration. The safety certificate only applies to light vehicles. If you bring a vehicle in from another state and garage it here, you have 14 days to register it. Heavy vehicles are registered under the National Heavy Vehicle Registration Scheme, and registration duty may apply depending on the transaction.

Can I refinance an existing truck loan?

Yes. If you bought through a dealer or a bank and the structure no longer fits, we can often refinance onto better terms. We will look at the payout figure on the current loan, what the truck is worth now, and whether a new structure frees up cash flow or a balloon is coming that you want to deal with early. Refinancing is a normal part of what we do.

What documents do I need?

It depends on the path. Full doc means tax returns, financials, BAS and bank statements. Low doc asks for far less, usually BAS, bank statements or a declaration. No doc leans on your ABN, GST registration and credit history. Tell us how your books are kept and we will tell you which path fits, rather than making you chase paperwork a lender will not ask for.

What is the difference between a chattel mortgage and a finance lease?

A chattel mortgage means your business owns the truck from day one and the lender holds a mortgage over it. A finance lease means you lease the truck across the term with an option to buy it at the end, and the lease payments are generally treated as operating expenses. The right one depends on how you use the truck and how your accountant treats it, so it is worth deciding together.

How quickly will someone get back to me?

We answer in 15 minutes within our operating hours, which are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7am to 8pm, Thursday 7am to 10pm, and Saturday and Sunday 7am to 5pm, seven days a week. You get a person, not a form response, and that first conversation usually gives you a read on the deal.

How long does approval take?

That depends on the application and the lender, so we will not quote you an approval time. What we can say is that funding can be as fast as 8 hours in the right circumstances, which is why getting your documents together and having the asset verified early matters more than the approval itself.

Are you based in Brisbane?

We do not have a Brisbane office. We service businesses across Australia from our core team in Sydney, and we work with Brisbane operators every day. Truck finance is done by phone and email, so your location does not slow the deal down. The Brisbane page is here because the market is different, not because we have a shopfront in it.

Can I get truck finance with bad credit?

Sometimes, yes, but it depends on what is on your file and how recent it is. A small default from a few years ago is different to an unpaid tax debt from last month. No doc lending leans most heavily on your credit history, so a clean file matters more there. Tell us the situation honestly upfront and we will tell you which lenders will look at it, rather than putting a decline on your file.

Can I finance a truck as a sole trader or with a new ABN?

Yes, though it is harder when there is no deposit and no property behind the application. Sole traders and newer ABNs usually go low doc or no doc, and a deposit or property makes a real difference to which lenders will look at it. If the truck is tied to a contract you have already won, tell us, because that changes how lenders read the deal.

Do you finance owner drivers and small fleets, or only established transport businesses?

Both. We place finance for owner drivers buying their first truck, couriers adding a vehicle to service a new contract, and fleets replacing or expanding. The lender and the structure differ by size, but the process is the same. If you are an owner driver, the truck and the contract matter more to a lender than the size of the business.

What is a balloon payment and should I use one?

A balloon is a lump sum left owing at the end of the term, which lowers your regular repayments. It suits operators who want the cash flow now and plan to trade the truck or refinance before the term ends. The trade-off is that you owe a lump sum at the end, and the balloon has to fit the truck age and value. We will show you the numbers with and without one.
